FTP accounts not working
Hi, I'm trying to setup an account from FTP accounts but I always get this message from Filezilla:
Error: The data connection could not be established: ECONNREFUSED - Connection refused by server
If I use the SFTP protocol, the login fails.
I've activated "Shell Access" from whm for this account also.

I believe SFTP is only for the cPanel user account, not for addon FTP accounts. Be sure you're using the full account name for the login as well, example: salvao @ example.com 0 -
Yes I'm using the full name. I understand the SFTP connection doesn't work with ftp addon accounts, but I'm using simple ftp and the connection is refused. I can see the connection as active from FTP connections but is dead from the ftp client. This is the log: Command: USER camimfacturas@---.com Response: 331 User camimfacturas@---.com OK. Are you able to connect normally with the cPanel user login? 0 -
With the main user I only can connect by SFTP, with ftp simple I get the same error... 0 -

Have you tried using an active transfer mode ? The "Error: The data connection could not be established: ECONNREFUSED - Connection refused by server" you are seeing seems to be connected with the switch to passive mode, and ports not being open on one or the other ends of the connection. There are many posts in the FileZilla forums regarding the exact error you are seeing - I am not at all convinced at the validity of some of the answers, but you might find some useful pointers :) 0 -
Hi rpvw, with active transfer is working well but I need to work with passive transfer mode. I followed the instructions from infopro and works like a charm Then, additional ftp accounts are not working by default ? Thank you guys! 0 -

Hello, If you browse to "WHM Home " Service Configuration " FTP Server Configuration", and set "Broken Clients Compatibility" to "Yes", does that fix the issue? Thank you. 0 -
If anyone using PureFTP still has this error and none of the above solutions worked: WHM > Service Configuration > FTP Server Selection > Pure-FTPD > Save This will re-install the FTP server. This was the only thing solved the problem for me. 0 -

Sivabalan PK - it's best to create a new thread for your issues as this one is many years old. However, I don't believe we'll be able to help if you don't have root access to the server. You'll need to have your hosting provider enable passive FTP as outlined here:

in order to get that connection working.
