Transfer Tool: "hostname verification failed"

Trying to run the transfer tool results in the error:

"Failed to establish session and parse security token: 599 Internal Exception (SSL connection failed for ###.###.###.###: hostname verification failed ) at /usr/local/cpanel/3rdparty/perl/536/cpanel-lib/cPanel/PublicAPI.pm line 526."

 

I'm able to SSH as root from the source to the destination server and vice versa.

 

Any ideas on what would cause this error?

  Are you using the hostname of the remote server or the IP address? Does it work if you use the other (i.e. if you are using the hostname, try using the IP and vice-versa)?

  I'm using the IP address, maybe that's the problem. 
  I'm not currently able to use the hostname due to a tangle of reasons that aren't worth going into here, but once I can resolve that I'll give it a try.

  Turns out I had set up Host Access Control so sshd blocked all connections except from my ip. Once I added the destination server to the whitelist it worked.

  I find it a bit strange, that if the destination server can't connect to the source server, at all, the error message is "hostname verification failed".

  Right? It definitely sent me down the wrong rabbit hole trying to solve the problem.
