Need PHP 7.4 Support - CloudLinux 9 or RockyLinux 9?
I am migrating a legacy PHP application to a new server (I uses WHM/Cpanel for control panel.) I was originally going Almalinux 9 but come to find out it doesn't support PHP 7.4 and going through hundreds of thousands of lines of code to update the code to make it PHP 8 compatible will take WAY more time than just using CloudLinux 9 or RockyLinux 9 which current support PHP 7.4 on WHM Cpanel from what I understand. (I'll deal with the migration to PHP 8 later when I have more time).
I only have experience managing a Centos VPS both inside WHM and outside on the console. I've got special stuff running like cron jobs running as root, one Cpanel account accessing the MySQL database from another Cpanel account. I might even have an instance where one cpanel account needs to read from another. I know CloudLinux is more compartmentalized security-wise. Will I possibly be banking my head against the wall switching to CloudLinux and should just go with RockyLinux or will the $7/month fee buy me better stability and support going with CloudLinux and sysadmin will be very similar to Centos/Alma?
Also I noticed Cpanel says WHM 116 is experimental on Rocky 9?

Hey there! For your situation you'll have to choose CloudLinux. CloudLinux 9 is still experimental for cPanel, so if you are hosting live sites on this it may be best to choose CloudLinux 8 at this time.

I switched to Almalinux 8.9. I don't need the additional features of CloudLinux or the extra cost of course. Never used it and could run the risk that I'm doing some custom cross-account operations/applications that the cageFS might break too.
