Compressed backups hang
Centos 7.9
WHM compressed backups hang for months at a time, not always on the same account. I know this because we discovered this client's server had backups hung for more than a year. (Restarted server)
cPanel "Full Backups" will hang.
Disabled "compressed" in WHM>Backup Configuration, and backups completed in about 5 minutes.
The last few important lines in the backup log look like this: (then "..." forever)

I did try updating to a new version of gzip (yum update gzip) but it didn't help.
Please advise.

Hey there! I'm not sure there's much to go on here if there aren't any additional errors in the backup log, and I don't have similar reports of this issue. It might be best to create a ticket, with either us or your host, to do some more investigation of the problem, as we will likely need to trace the backup process itself to see why it is hanging.

The license IP says inmotion needs to help so I can't open a cpanel ticket, but inmotion hasn't been much help so far.
At least I found I can get uncompressed backups at least, so the migration off of Centos can at least be done.

I'm sorry to hear that, and I'm passing along that feedback.

ttremain Have you monitored the process with top or htop for example? Is "zipping" ongoing? I would also check the I/O usage on the disks with "iostat" command (if not installed can be with yum install sys stat"). It could be that the disk is slow hence it hangs, especially if its a VPS rather than a dedi.
