Continuing issues with Message has lines too long for transport
AnsweredWe are on the latest version of Cpanel: AlmaLinux v8.9.0 STANDARD standard cPanel Version 116.0.10
In the exim config manager we have the value set at 1000000.
As that was not resolving the issue we edited exim.conf file for message_linelength_limit and set it to 2048000 in the 2 places where we can amend the value manually. We are aware that the value can be overwritten (and has in times past and we have edited again).
All the above per the many past posts on this forum about the issue.
None of the above works. We still have outlook clients who are encountering the problem constantly - every day in the last few weeks: they are using Outlook desktop to connect to their webmail.
We also had them follow the tutorial at Outlook and elsewhere where they edit the Message format in Outlook and set the "automatically wrap text at character" to 90. No joy with this either. We think it resolved a few of the past instances but not many.
We are encountering great client frustration on this. They tell us that at other email accounts at MSN and elsewhere they do not encounter the issue.
This has been an ongoing problem for 2 yrs now. While the frequency of the issue is reduced it is still occurring.
We strongly believe as well the value of 1000000 as max should be amended so that a custom figure above that is available without having to manually amend the conf file.
We are only encountering this issue on our cpanel servers. Nowhere else!
Please tell us how to resolve this matter, in finality.
We thank you for a timely reply to this.

Hey there! There isn't a reason this value should ever need to approach 2 million. Exim's default even without cPanel is 998, and we only created such a high custom value on our end to deal with mail clients like this.
https://www.exim.org/exim-html-current/doc/html/spec_html/ch-the_smtp_transport.html
"The default value is that defined by the SMTP standards."
At this time, we don't have plans to bump that anymore.
Could you submit a ticket, to either us or your host, so we can see this in action and determine why such a high number is required on your instance?

Are you possibly using Mailscanner or a custom smarthost on the machine?

Thanks for the details - can you try the workaround mentioned here to see if that helps?

Thank you cPRex for this, It was in my Smarthost Transportstart that was messing me up, the 66655 in the Exim basic wasn't enough since I use SpamExpert Smart Route..
Reloaded my Centos 6 with Alma 9 and went from super old WHM locked down to the latest, and forgot that THIS changed somewhere along the way.
This got my email back to normal for the company cheers.
