Redirect Server Hostname www record to another site on the same server
Hello,
Apologies if this is a simple solution and if you feel I should know this but I simply don't.
DOMAIN USED FOR HOST: thedomainname.com
SERVER HOST NAME: sv01.thedomainname.com
I have a client that is running his own cPanel server but wants the www.thedomainname.com record to point to one of his other websites and not just show the SORRY! default cPanel page that comes up.
Is this even possible because this domain doesn't have it's own cPanel account so there is nowhere for me to place a redirect in the .htaccess file for this domain.
I would appreciate any assistance.

You can do CNAME. Set a CNAME record from www.thedomainname.com to newdomain.com and that should do it.

You also may be interested in setting a default vhost for the server, which Apache will serve if it's not sure how to handle the request:

cPRex whats strange is that the domain that we want to make the primary doesn't have the Make Primary next to it. All the others have except this one.
and yet, when we access the www of the host domain directly from the web, it shows the SORRY! page.

The two best options in this case are likely this:
-create a cPanel account for the domain so you can place content there
or
-if he wants to redirect the domain to other content, you could create an Alias through another cPanel account to setup that redirect.
