Roundcube Themes Gone?
I noticed that I cannot change the theme (To Larry) in roundcube, I am on build 120.0.1
Was this feature removed or deeply hidden, as its not under the settings icon anymore.
Thanks

Colin Palmer - as mentioned previously, *cPanel* didn't remove the theme - we chose to make it unavailable because it's not receiving regular updates.

Actually "remove" or "chose to make it unavailable" means the same. :)
That is just a theme, mostly html and css styles, so as mentioned previously, I do not see a reason to "remove it" or "make it unavailable", or how ever you say that. It was not a security risk and now it is not available for clients just because there are no updates, that were not needed anyway.

Cpanel did "in fact" remove the theme. If you look here ( /usr/local/cpanel/base/3rdparty/roundcube/skins/larry ) you will see all the files are deleted (you know, removed?). The directory structure is there.
Here is how to restore and enable the Larry theme.
From the shell (SSH).
cd /usr/local/cpanel/base/3rdparty/roundcube/skins/
mv larry larry-x
wget https://github.com/roundcube/larry/archive/refs/heads/master.zip
unzip master.zip
mv larry-master larry
cd ../
nano config/config.inc.php
Add 'larry' here:
$config['skins_allowed'] = ['elastic', 'larry'];
NOTE: cpanel will overwrite this and break your skins. Even though the defaults.inc.php is the main config and you are supposed to be able to edit config.inc.php
Now you will see the theme is selectable in your webmail settings: preferences: user interface.
Final notes: maybe someone could renew development on the skin so that CPanel will restore it.

Just another vote for this, we're receiving quite a few user complaints since upgrading.

Hello! Here's another victim haha. This weekend I started moving some clients to new servers with latest cPanel and the first complaints have to do with this. They ask me for the old Roundcube theme. I'm checking in to see if there's any progress on this.

Benito - I'd encourage you to leave some feedback through our features site at features.cpanel.net. We're tracking all that feedback internally as I also manage that area, so I'll be sure to see it!

Hi Rex, I'll do it.
In reality, my customers didn't ask me for the old RoundCube theme, they just told me that they want the reading panel below the email list and not on the side.

I'm in the "Bring it back NOW" camp.
When can we expect Larry available for use?
0 -
Eois MacRae - we will not be bringing that back. Can you let me know what specific features from that theme you liked?

cPRex -> "we will not be bringing that back.", is that cpanel final answer?

Probably the fact that I could use it, that I knew how it worked, that I had a layout which made sense to me, that it did what I needed it to do without my searching for a button or link because it was moved from where it had been for years, ... You know, those little usability issues you always read about?
Imagine you've been driving a car for several years. You know where the gas, brake, shift, and steering wheel are.
Now imagine someone coming by and modifying your car so what use to be the steering wheel now shift the transmission, what use to be the brake pedal now steers the car, what use to be the gas pedal applies the brakes, and what use to be the shift causes acceleration, and you have no say in this switch. You're told automobile manufacturers deprecated the old methodology because they realized its use had risks associated with it and not given time to explore the new methodology to cast a yay/nay vote.
Me, I stop driving what use to be my car and immediately begin looking for a new form of transportation until I find one that does what I want when I want the way I want.

juan manuel - yes, that is an official answer from cPanel.
Eois MacRae - I get that there is a change, but besides change itself, is there an actual problem with the interface you're having that Larry solved?

My clients miss this visualization. Folders in the sidebar, the rest 50% and 50% between email list and preview. I am satisfied that you allow us to put other themes without it being broken by an update.

Yes, Larry was usable.
Where is it written that because something's changed it continues to be usable?
If people are having usage issues with something's use, it is unusable.
This message thread indicates several people are having usage issues.
Several people in this thread indicate they represent several more others who are not on this thread who also have usage issues.
Is it cPanel's position to leave people unsatisfied and wanting? Doing so is excellent incentive for people to migrate to another platform, probably one they're already familiar with, perhaps one they use intermittantly but are none-the-less comfortable using.
I see above someone gives instructions for how to reinstate Larry. I want to know how much they charge to do so.
In lieu of that, I'll make some time to do it myself.
That's how much I want something I know how to use back so I can use it.
So stating to a dissatisfied user(s) "I get that there is a change, but besides change itself, is there an actual problem with the interface you're having that Larry solved?" is the equivalent of telling those user(s) "Hey, get use to the new interface. It's all we're going to do for you." which is equivalent of telling them to move on, a "my way or the highway" option, which brings us back to changing how to operate a car. I can't drive my vehicle your way, hence can't see to my necessities, hence my first stop on the highway will be to find a car I can drive.

Benito, you wrote "I am satisfied that you allow us to put other themes without it being broken by an update."
Sorry, I'm confused. Are you satisfied with the new interface? And if the image you shared is the new interface, how did you get it to look like that?
Thanks.

Benito - that seems to be the most common complaint I'm getting - having the email show below the email list above for better readability, so that's on our list!

No, the image I shared is from the Larry theme, which is no longer in the cPanel Roundcube.
What I meant is that it is not strictly necessary for them to put the Larry theme back if they consider it unsafe, if they let us put other themes without an update breaking it, it would be a good option. If we want to put Larry even if it does not have updates, it would be our problem.

Benito Thanks. Sorry for my confusion. Yes, I'm with you on this.

As Eois MacRae said , yes there is a problem: It's a usability problem!
After that prices "updates" of the last years, someone would expect from cpanel to be able to "hear more" it's customers. "My way or the highway" option as Eois MacRae said. Truly sad.

cPRex please push for giving everyone here an ETA on a fix/update to the theme that is pushed by cPanel. I think enough people here have major issues w/ the theme to where this should be a really high priority

I agree with a lot of the comments. I find the new design of RoundCube to be difficult to work with. My customers are also asking for a better solution. I think the easiest fix would be to give the ability to close the "preview pane" on the right and stretch the center message area across the whole screen. The other option would be move the preview pane below the messages and allow the emails to stretch across the whole screen. The major problem is the message area is too small (left to right width makes it hard to get a feel for what the email is). Does anybody know if I can install a different webmail program on cpanel? I might just be time to look for other software to access the mail. I can't believe the RoundCube developers didn't notice how bad the layout is and give some options. This is not 1990, there are lots of ways to fix this issue with current technology. The line about Larry being a security risk is laughable. Yeah, maybe it was but you could have developed a layout that looks like it using the current backend.

Jerry Drescher - thanks for providing me with specifics on what you'd like to see changed in that interface. I've passed that feedback along to the developers.

It seems the ugly interface fairy's been at work again. Or is this only happening with my interface?
0 -
How do you get it? cPanel 120.0.14 here and can't find the old theme.
0 -
I checked emails via the web interface last night and the not-larry (elastic?) interface opened. I checked again this morning on another computer and yep, the not-larry interface was active.
Sometime yesterday (not sure when) it seems the ugly interface fairy did her thing.
And if I'm the only one experiencing this, I'll work it out.

Eois MacRae - no, this is a global change and not just you. Is there something specific you liked about the older interface that the new one doesn't have?
0 -
Yes, I understood it and could navigate without hesitation.
How many existing larry users contacted you with "Dear God, please get rid of larry!"?

Is there an ETA for a new/other theme with the features & look we all want?
Having the email shown below, the email list above for better readability,
The Sender and Subject are in their own distinct columns and the possibility to sort emails by columns

José - I haven't heard anything on my end yet, but I did add your feedback to the list we're tracking internally so the developers can see that.

cPRex - so, what's the best way to get notifications on this case progress?
