WHM for WP Squared > Transfer Tool
I notice that WHM for WP Squared has the Transfer Tool available. At first glance it looks identical to the Transfer Tool in the "normal" WHM.
Are there any special considerations when transferring websites between WP Squared servers and 'normal' WHM servers, using the Transfer Tool?
For example, let's say I try to transfer a non-WordPress site from a normal WHM server to a WP Squared server. Will the transfer tool flag this as a show-stopper? Or will a non-WP site run on a WP Squared server?
Any other considerations?

Hey there! The Transfer Tool on the WP Squared server is smart enough to detect if you are trying to move a non-WP Squared account to it. You'll see an error similar to this:
RESTORE: Account “username”: Account Restore Failed: “Aborted.”
The “username” account is not eligible for restoration on this server: “cPanel” accounts cannot be restored on “WP Squared” systems.Does that answer your concerns here?

OK, to confirm: the Transfer Tool (currently) only works between WP Squared servers.
Potentially there will be many WordPress sites on non WP Squared servers (i.e. 'normal' WHM/cPanel servers) that would want to move to a WP Squared server. Are there any plans on the roadmap to make this possible using the Transfer Tool, i.e. to make it smart enough to handle this?
Until such time (if ever) that it is possible, then presumably your recommendation to move a WordPress site from a cPanel server to a WP Squared server would be to use more manual methods, or perhaps a plugin like WP Migrate or similar?1 -
Yes, there are plans to make this compatible with WordPress sites on cPanel servers in the future :D. I can't say exactly when that will happen, but it's being worked on as we speak.
At this point, yes, you would need to use a more manual method to move those sites to a WP Squared system.

This information, I'd suggest, is a "semi-significant" when it comes to embracing (or not) WP Squared.
Are there any articles with a side-by-side feature comparison of WP Square versus cPanel/WHM, so that we can get a better sense of how they compare, relative strengths and weaknesses, inclusions and exclusions. If you, could you guys write and publish one pls? AI assisted, of course :-)0 -
I don't have anything readily-available for that, but I let the WP Squared team know so they are looking into it!

I wonder if there is any news regarding this.
Ideally, the Transfer Tool should only transfer the website, and keep everything else in place, in case clients have any email accounts there and would like to keep them at their cPanel server.
On the meantime, if we want to migrate a WordPress at a cPanel server, we should do it manually? Maybe creating a restore from WP Toolkit and import it at WP Squared?
Currently considering WP Squared but would like to confirm how much work will involve between our clients interested in this.

Hey there! The Transfer Tool has since been updated to work with WP Squared. More details on that can be found here, including a list of things you shouldn't expect to work in the WP Squared environment:

Indeed I've read the link but it does not confirm my question.
Will the transfer tool migrate only the WordPress site and point the domain to the new IP, keeping other records like MX intact?
If we use the Transfer Tool with an account that uses other tools, not supported by WP Squared, will it only migrate the WP and keep everything else intact?
If not, it seems that migration from cPanel to WP Squared might be done better manually, in which case my second question: Maybe the easier way is to create a restore from WP Toolkit and import it at WP Squared?

The Transfer Tool behavior for the MX record, or other custom records, doesn't change with WP Squared. Here is some testing I did early in the Live Transfer era, with an in-depth explanation about what checks are performed when the transfer happens:
The short answer - any custom configurations in DNS, like an MX record, should be moved as they have been before.
