MariaDB Server to Become Default Database in cPanel
I've read this: https://cpanel.net/blog/announcements/mariadb-server-to-become-default-database-in-cpanel/
I remember perfectly well all the controversy when it was decided that MySQL was going to be the default standard, and now again, it changes again.
This makes it difficult to have consistent ecosystems, because each new server will have another database by default. And yes, you can change it in the installer, but in many Cloud providers you can only use cPanel with the official image, and it already comes with the default database.
I think it would be necessary and convenient to be able to choose the database post-installation, when the server is still clean and freshly installed. It would be a very welcome feature.
When you have a whole ecosystem in MariaDB, which had to adapt to MySQL, and now again will again have inconsistencies with the new versions that will have MariaDB again, it makes it very complicated to have a stable environment, which is one of the reasons why companies opt for cPanel.
For example, MySQL 8 uses in many tables utf8mb4_0900_ai_ci, a collection that MariaDB does not support. And this is the least of the problems.
