Almalinux or CloudLinux
Hello
Since centos operating system support has ended, we will move to a new server.
about the operating system
Unsure about alma8 or cloudlinux.
We are considering the CloudLinux OS Shared PRO version. (paid version)
Which operating system do you recommend in terms of stability and usage?
(fee is not important to us)
Do you know if there will be any problems in cloudlinux if parts are changed in case of hardware failures in the future?
I read that cloudlinux has problems with hardware changes.
We will use nvme ssd disks on the new server
We have a lot of sites running php 7.4.
alma9 does not support php7.4.
Looks like cloudlinux has support.
stability / security / ease of use / update etc..
If you evaluate it in general terms, which operating system would you recommend?
Regards

Hey there! If you need PHP 7.4 still, the choice is easy - you need to go with CloudLinux. You will also gain many features that are helpful on a shared system, like assigning resources per user.
Details on the extra tools available with CloudLinux can be found here: https://www.cloudlinux.com/features/

Hi
in cloudlinux operating system
In case of any disk failure, the operating system stops working.Isn't this a serious problem?
we have a backup and can replace the faulty disk with a new one
but the operating system will not runinformation on their website
Replacing the server hardware affects specifications and support for such hardware from CloudLinux OS end. It is most likely that the CloudLinux OS will stop working if you replace any hardware component on the server.0 -
CloudLinux just wants to make it clear that the way they configure the system could cause additional restoration work to be necessary, but to me this doesn't sound any different than the traditional need to reload your OS before restoring backups. The only time that this would come up is if you had a dedicated drive for the user data (such as /home) and needed to physically replace that drive on the machine.

on the new server
2x Samsung SSD 870 EVO 250GB SSD (Raid 1)
1x Dell Express Flash PM1725b 1.6TB AICoperating system (cloudlinux)
2x Samsung SSD 870 EVO 250GB SSD (Raid 1)
will be on your diskweb sites
Dell Express Flash PM1725b 1.6TB AIC
on diskFor example, the hard disk containing the websites broke down (nvme 1.6 tb).
we have a backup and installed the new disk
Will cloudlinux not recognize this disk?Thank you very much for your answers and help.

We have sites running on PHP 7.4 and it is not possible to upgrade them in a short time.
We are going to buy a new server and we are undecided on the operating system.
The hosting company does not install cloudlinux and I think they will not provide support for it if there is a problem.
I think it is a very big risk that the operating system will not work in case of any hardware failure.
For example, the raid card may break, the hosting company will replace the card, but it will not work on our server because the operating system will not work.I think Cloudlinux operating system works until hardware failure :)
alma9 does not support php 7.4..
Do you know until what year we can use cpanel / whm if we install alma8 ?
Is it possible to upgrade to Alma9 without any problems in the future? The websites we have should not stop even for a minute.
We place huge advertisements and web/email traffic is very important to us.Frankly, the situation with the cloudlinux hardware change made me think.
What would you suggest to us in the light of this information?
thanks a lot.

AlmaLinux 8 is supported by cPanel until March 1, 2029. There currently isn't an in-place tool to upgrade to Alma 9, although it's something we'll be working on in the future.
I would recommend reaching out to CloudLinux directly about the hardware concerns as they would be able to get you more specifics on what may be affected from a hardware change.
