    Upgrading all databases means that you upgraded MySQL? from what version to what version?

    I would renamed the /var/lib/mysql folder, re-create the symlink then start MySQL and see what the version is.

    Mysql would not start. Version is 8.0

    Does it start with the new content in /var/lib/mysql? What is the version in that case?

    Have you tried using the details outlined here to properly configure /home/mysql as the datadir?

    Andrew was able to fix this for me.  Turns out there was a corrupt database in the mix that I had not seen.  Andrew was able to diagnose it in no time and got things back up and running.  Highly recommend his service.
