If you have Apache/MySQL monitoring enabled in WHM "Service Manger" it will check of those services/daemons are responding and restart them if needed.  It will attempt to send and email that the service was hung and then restarted OK.  You'd need "System Mail Preferences" set properly to get them.

Nothing in WHM will restart the whole server.

When I said my platform, to clarify, I mean my web software platform, not cPanel.

I looked in WHM and ChkServd, "Responsible for checking, monitoring and restarting services." is checked. I don't see any form field to enter a custom email address. So over in cPanel I checked the system email and I see no notifications.

In the Edit System Mail Preferences I updated "Forward mail for “nobody” to:" to the system email address replacing root. I have no idea how root is an email address, perhaps cPanel reroutes it to the system email address?

There isn't enough information to answer this.  What I *can* say is that the database server doesn't have the power to restart anything, even itself.  That's all triggered by outside monitoring tools.

Rex, thanks for replying. What would I do to go about getting the information so we can work towards a definitive answer about what happened?

If your cPanel license is purchased through us you're always welcome to submit a ticket to our team.  If not, continuing to work with your hosting provider is the best way to get a resolution to this issue.
