Disabled IP6 following the cPanel article but it keeps on coming back
Hi,
I keep on receiving "⚠ Partial DNS resolver failure" where
amazon.com
captive.apple.com
connectivitycheck.android.com
cpanel.com
ebay.com
facebook.com
google.com
live.com
reddit.com
yahoo.com
keep on trying to connect via IP6 and get Timeout.
I followed the steps from this article:
https://support.cpanel.net/hc/en-us/articles/360053362374-How-To-Disable-IPv6
and all is done properly but the WHM keeps on reinstating IP6 and I am getting failures.
What can I do to solve this?
-
Is there IPv6 (AAAA) record for your domain in the domain's DNS zone?
0 -
Well, this is on the WHM for the server. There are 100's of domains.
Shall I check all of the domains for AAAA record?0 -

if they are trying to connect to any domain in your server via IPv6 that could be because there is an AAAA record for that domain.
So what if you start with checking just ONE domain they are trying to connect to.

Seems I didn't read your 1st message well enough.
AFAIK "Partial DNS resolver failure" means that there is something wrong with the DNS resolver, i.e. in file /etc/resolv.conf
Is there an IPv6 address in that file?
0 -
No there isn't any IPv6 in that file.
Only 2 IP4 that the server is using0 -
When you say "WHM keeps reinstating IPv6" can you get me more details on what you're seeing there?
0 -
In -> Resolver Configuration the "Tertiary Resolver (optional)"
keeps on loading IPv6 every few days.
I removed it and saved it several times but after a few days the WHM sends me an email "Partial DNS resolver failure" and when I checked the IPv6 was loaded again at the "Tertiary Resolver (optional)".0 -
Have you tried removing that directly from the /etc/resolv.conf file instead of the interface to see what happens? If that doesn't do it, you may want to speak with your host as they provide those resolvers as part of the initial server configuration.

Well in that file etc/resolv.conf there is only this (no IPv6)
# Generated by NetworkManager
search serverdomain.com
nameserver ***.**.***.*** (with actual IP numbers)
nameserver ***.**.***.***
So the rest of the file is empty0 -
Alright, that's good - it is also gone from WHM at this time?

It reappeared this morning.
The "Tertiary Resolver (optional)" is filled with IPv60 -
It would be best to submit a ticket about this issue so it can be investigated directly on the system.

The moment I submit the ticket your support sends me a response that I didn't purchase the license directly, and I have to go through the partner and when I write to them they say it's a self-managed server, and they are not helping.
What should I do.
As now I keep on getting the WHM +cPanel can't update because of this?0 -
That is correct - you'll have to contact your license provider first, and then they would escalate the issue to us if they aren't able to resolve the problem.
You could also purchase a direct cPanel license and then you'll be able to contact our team directly.
