DNS Only Cluster

Hello,

We need assistance in setting up a DNS cluster between two servers:

1. Web Server with cPanel and WHM: This server manages domains and needs to send its DNS records to another server.

2. DNS Only Server: This server should collect all DNS records from the web server without modifying them or sending anything back.

Issue: In the official guides and documentation, such as the cPanel DNS Cluster Guide, there is no clear instruction on which exact role should be assigned to each server. The descriptions of roles like Write-only and Synchronize Changes are vague and do not provide precise guidance on which configuration is correct for our specific use case.

Questions:

• What exact role should be assigned to the DNS Only server when adding it to the cluster on the web server so that it only receives records and does not send anything back?
• What are the exact steps and settings required to configure this correctly and avoid any errors or conflicts?

We would greatly appreciate a clear, step-by-step guide that explains how to properly assign roles for both servers.

  Hey there!  In general, I tell people do the following for the simplest configuration:

  -set the webserver to write-only - most users don't want DNS zone data coming back to the webserver from a cluster member
  -set the DNSOnly machine to standalone
