Help with MX
AnsweredA client who is hosted on another server needs to use my email service. How do I configure an MX so that he can configure it on his server and use the email to receive and send emails?

Hey there! You'll need to setup two records to get this working:
-change the MX record to mail.domain.com
-add an A record for mail.domain.com that points to the IP address of the server where the email will be handled.Once those two things are in place, and you wait for DNS propagation to complete, the mail will get routed to the correct system

Do I only do this in the client's DNS zone? Do I not need to do anything in mine?

You would do this in the client's DNS zone, wherever their DNS is controlled.

and the mail.domain.com record of the cname type that exists... do I leave it or delete it?

You'll just be changing the record type to an A record. If that means you need to delete it first, then do that, as you can't have two of the same entries in a DNS zone.

that

That's the one! That "my IP" just needs to be the address of the server where you want the mail to go.

Don't forget an SPF record, DKIM record and even a DMARC record. Check "Email Deliverability" under that domain's account on your server, and you'll see information regarding whether proper SPF / DKIM exist. You will likely have to copy those SPF and DKIM records from the account on your server and add them into DNS where the DNS is hosted.

Thanks for the recommendations. I will add the records.
