Reverse DNS PTR Issue
Hi All
I have set up a WHM/CPANEL server on Vultr but my outbound emails are not being delivered. Under email deliverability I am getting the following error:
---------------------------
Reverse DNS (PTR) Problems Exist
The system uses an alternate HELO of “cpanelxxxxx.vultrusercontent.com” when sending mail from the “example.com” domain.
The system sends the domain “cpanelxxxxx.vultrusercontent.com” in the SMTP handshake for this domain’s email. “cpanelxxxxx.vultrusercontent.com” resolves to “127.0.0.1”, not “139.84.xxx.xxx”.
To fix this problem, contact your system administrator and request that they create a DNS “A” record for “cpanelxxxxx.vultrusercontent.com” whose value is “139.84.236.168”.
--------------------
I added this A record but still getting the same error. Does anyone have any suggestions?-
Hey there! You'll likely need to contact the hosting provider because they are the ones that manage the "vultrusercontent.com domain, so setting up the record on your machine wouldn't work. If they give you the option to change the hostname of the server I would do that so you have full control over the DNS.

Hi cPRex
Thank you for the feedback.
My servers hostname is cpanelxxxxx.vultrusercontent.com and I've also set the rDNS to the same.

Where did you configure that rDNS record?

There is also an A entry for the hostname

Thanks for sharing that - unfortunately that isn't going to work as your server doesn't control the DNS for the vulrusercontent.com. That domain is owned by Vultr, so any changes you make on your server will have no affect.

This is where the rDNS is configured in the server settings

What is that last screenshot taken from?

That last screenshot is from my Vultr Server Dashboard, not WHM.

Thanks for confirming - if that isn't working as expected you'd need to speak with Vultr since it does appear everything is properly configured.
If you just recently added this record it could be going through propagation on their side, so it's normal for the DNS to not respond (which would also mean the cPanel interface check would fail) for several hours.

Ok, thank you. Let me leave it overnight to propagate and I will check tomorrow.
