features.cpanel.net - overview and our process
PinnedGreetings! As you’ve likely seen, features.cpanel.net has not only received a facelift in 2024, but we’ve also created a roadmap that shows new features we’ll be adding to cPanel & WHM. Here are some details about this page as well as a summary of how feature requests get handled internally – we want you to know your voice is heard.
The Roadmap
The “Planned Roadmap” page shows items that our team is actively working on and that will be included in the product in the future. When possible, these items are grouped into a specific quarter or cPanel version number of their estimated release date.
The “Released” page shows items that were once on the Planned Roadmap that have now made it into the product and are ready to be used by our customers.
The “Under Consideration” page are items where we have received a request from a user, but we want to get more feedback from the community before we decide if it’s something we’re interested in implementing. Be sure to comment on these if you’d like to see them happen!
“Unplanned” shows features that we were considering including at one point, but are now no longer part of the future of cPanel.
“Deferred” shows things we’d like to ad in the future, but our teams weren’t able to fit them on the current roadmap due to the scope of work required or other development priorities.
Features
We wanted to provide our users with an overview of the feature request process so you are all aware of what happens behind the scenes after a feature request gets submitted.
Once a feature request gets submitted, it goes through an initial triage process to see if it’s something that we will consider. For example, if someone submits “I want to see cPanel change from orange to purple,” that isn’t going to make it very far through the evaluation process. At this point, if the item isn’t something that we’re going to take on, we contact the customer to let them know their particular request won’t be implemented.
If the item gets through that initial triage, it gets assigned to the development team responsible for that work. Email, domains, security, etc., each have their own team, and the manager of that team will determine if the feature is something that should be added to the product and if we have the resources to tackle it. At this point if it is decided that the feature will not be added to the product, we’ll let the submitter know. We may also add an item to the “Under Consideration” board mentioned above to get more feedback from the community before we make a decision about the feature. If it is a feature we want to add we’ll contact the submitter and let them know! We may also reach out to the submitter to get more details about a request, or let them know that an alternative solution already exists in the product.
One of the main focuses of the new process is that we always “close the loop” – even if your particular feature request ultimately doesn’t get added to cPanel & WHM, we still want you to know that it was read and considered by an actual human, and not just submitted to a void never to be actioned on again.
