hostname domain expired

Hey there!  If a hostname domain expires, it would only affect the rest of the sites on the server if that was also being used for the DNS service.  it sounds like that is what happened here, but I just wanted to clarify that there is no link between the actual hostname of the server

The best thing to do in this situation would be check one of the domains that was previously working on the server and see what nameservers are configured there.  You could use that information to recreate the same nameservers, since it is likely they no longer exist.

Let me know if that helps!

    yeah it's a little helpful.

yes the domain name that we were using as a hostname and for our nameservers expired so all the sites on that server went down.

i can see two nameservers in the dns zones of whm that look like they contain proper info. but I cant get anything to connect. even the zone for the hostname looks proper to me. but maybe I just dont know what I am looking at this point. I contacted godaddy back to see if there was some sort of delay or additional authorization needed since it was fresh out of redemption, but they just say "contact your host". "everything looks fine on our end"

You must register the nameservers in the registrar of your hostname domain.

yes that is done. been done actually, some of these sites are years old using the same nameservers, so I know they are correct. The domain being in limbo with redemption seems to have corrupted the dns somehow.

but I am having some mixed luck here.

went through each domain and deleted the nameservers, and reset back to default waited a few minutes, then re-added previous the nameservers. this fixed a few of the sites but not others. still seems that something is clogging up along the way.

When quietFinn said you have to register the nameservers, that would be something done at the registrar of the nameserver domain.  So, wherever you performed the redemption work should be able to configure those for you.

If you scan a domain over at intodns.com do you see any odd results there about the DNS?
