How to access system email address via IMAP and SMTP?
There are occasional errors that get sent to the system email address. For others reading, it is a cropped version of your domain name:
exampletest.com --> examplet
I explicitly do not want to use any of the built in email systems to check for messages as they are rare though important. However I have not been able to determine how to successfully authenticate this email address using my mail system. My mail system authenticates with normal addresses on the primary and secondary domain names in cPanel.
I presume the pass word that should be used is the same one that successfully authenticates in to cPanel. Here are the combinations I have tried for IMAP using port 993:
examplet@exampletest.com
mail.exampletest.com
examplet@exampletest.com
server.exampletest.com
examplet@server.exampletest.com
mail.exampletest.com
examplet@server.exampletest.com
server.exampletest.com
I had looked at the manage page for the email address in cPanel though there was no documentation there. I'm not even sure if the cPanel people refer to it as the "system email" or something else. How do I configure IMAP authentication for the system email address please?

Hey there! Personal opinion - don't. We don't recommend trying to use or connect to this address, and you'll still have to log in to a separate account to check the mail.
I'd recommend using the Forwarding option here:
https://docs.cpanel.net/cpanel/email/default-address/#default-address-maintenance
to forward messages that reach this address to a "real" address that you check regularly. That ensures nothing is missed and then you don't need to setup a separate system just to check this address.

Hi Rex. I most definitively do want to access the system email using my system. I also disable the page file and change all of the default settings on everything. I do not want to use the forwarding option either.
How do I configure IMAP authentication for the system email address please?

I didn't have any difficulty configuring this inside Thunderbird with IMAP using username@domain.com along with the cPanel password and standard IMAP ports. Thunderbird automatically set the port to 993 as that is the default, and it connected the first time.
Did you get any specific error messages from your mail client when you tried the connection? If not, do you see anything odd in /var/log/maillog when you try to connect?

server.exampletest.comI am moderately certain that I had tested that combination of credentials though I also tested with two passwords so I something wrong somewhere. Thank you!
