cPanel ELevate from upgrading the system to AlmaLinux 9
Hello,
In Security Advisor in whm I get message:
The system detected the following issues which would prevent cPanel ELevate from upgrading the system to AlmaLinux 9:

The grub2-pc package is not installed. The GRUB2 boot loader is required to upgrade via leapp. If you need assistance, open a ticket with cPanel Support, as outlined here https://docs.cpanel.net/knowledge-base/technical-support-services/how-to-open-a-technical-support-ticket/
The GRUB2 config file is missing. If you need assistance, open a ticket with cPanel Support, as outlined here https://docs.cpanel.net/knowledge-base/technical-support-services/how-to-open-a-technical-support-ticket/
Also there is message in Security Advisor
It may be possible to upgrade the operating system on your server to a newer major release without migrating to a new server.
Consider testing the cPanel ELevate utility to upgrade the operating system to AlmaLinux 9 before the current system reaches End of Life. For more information, see the utility’s website.
I have now installed OS version Alma Linux 8.
What does this message mean, will the OS be upgraded to Alma Linux 9?
In file cpupdate.conf :
more /etc/cpupdate.conf
CPANEL=stable
RPMUP=daily
SARULESUP=daily
STAGING_DIR=/usr/local/cpanel
UPDATES=manual
Best regards,
Elizabeta

Hey hey! This is just letting you know that if you were to run the ELevate tool to upgrade the system to AlmaLinux 9, you wouldn't be able to use PHP 7.2 as it's not supported by the new operating system, so it would have to be removed first.
But no, cPanel will *never* attempt to automatically upgrade the server to a new operating system.

I have been getting this WHM notification, it doesn't say what repos are incompatible? How would I find the incompatible repos? Edit: Update preference is on Stable setting, Does it need to be on Release version?
Server running:
AlmaLinux v8.10.0 STANDARD
cPanel Version 128.0.17--------------------
Elevate The system detected the following issues which would prevent cPanel ELevate from upgrading the system to AlmaLinux 9:
• One or more enabled YUM repositories are currently unsupported and have installed packages. You should disable these repositories and remove packages installed from them before continuing the update.

Nick Kipper - stable is just fine. Just above that output it should have given you a list of repos on the system causing the issue. If not, can you share your repo list here? If I see that list I can likely tell you what's causing the issue.

Hi, the notification did not list what repos where unsupported. I recently did a yum autoremove.
From what I can see it removed a bunch of packages below not needed. I will see if that fixes things, if not all I can think is it does not like MariaDB 10.5, maybe because that is end of life? We need to upgrade to min 10.6 I believe. Details of yum clean all, yum makecache below as well.

The Remi's repos might have to be disabled or removed. There are not "normal" repos. I am familiar with what they are. But I think they are likely not supported in an Elevate. You'd have to uninstall or disable them to complete an Elevate and then re-install / re-enable them afterwards on AL9.
I'm not sure about EPEL. Might be the same for that.

EPEL should be fine - the Remi repos are almost certainly the issue and the only obvious conflict I can see there.

What are those Remi's repos? related to PHP updates from what I can learn or see? might be old repos no longer needed?. I use EasyApache 4 to install or remove PHP versions. Would there be any issues remove Remi's repos? Server currently has PHP 8.3 and 8.4.

Correct. For PHP updates. But not anything you'd ever normally be using on a cPanel machine. You should disable the Remi repos.
