How to quickly find a file path?

Hey there!  You should be able to tell the path of the file by looking at the structure on the page.  Here's an example of an index page from a test account:

We know we are logged in as the cptest1 user, and from the left sidebar we can see his account is located in /home/cptest1.  Then we can see we are viewing public_html that has the index.html file, so the full path would be /home/cptest1/public_html/index.html.

Both the "move" and "rename" tools do show the path on my end, relative to the /home/username directory:

    Does that help clarify things?

Thanks for the reply, but I'm afraid that doesn't really help. I realize I can figure out the path from sidebar, but my objective is to be able to copy and paste the path. If I could do that in the sidebar, that would do the job just fine. But I have not found any way to get the path directly from the sidebar, only by extrapolation.

When I use Rename or Move, it *used* to show me the path (not including the filename, which was in the field below), which was exactly how I got the path in the past, but now it does NOT show this to me. This was the reason for my post. If there was any field or command I could find that displayed the path, I would use that, but I cannot find any.

I really do think you should be able to right-click on a file and execute a command from the drop-down menu that copies the path to the clipboard, or, at the very least, displays it. Even if the Move or Rename dialogs *did* show the path, that's still more or less of a workaround for something that, in my opinion, should be blood simple.

So, I'm still stuck. But thanks for trying to help!

Thanks for the additional details.  The best thing I can offer would be to submit a feature request on your behalf and then I can bring that up with the team.  If it's something we used to have, we may be able to find the change that stopped it from showing up to see how it worked previously.  Would you like me to submit that request for you?

yes, thank you, that would be splendid. It seems to me a useful and basic function to have in a file manager to be able to easily extract and copy the path to a file.

I routinely use those paths when I post one or more files for a friend or client to access. Often, they are audio files for review and the path (used as a URL preceded with my domain) brings it up in the browser for auditioning.

So, yeah, it would be a good feature request, I think. Thanks for your help. FYI, I wonder if the path not appearing in the Move and Rename dialogs could be a browser thing. I like using Firefox, but it seems less compatible with quite a few web functions than other browsers, which is a drag. But what're ya gonna do?

Just to be sure, I did create a cPanel version 86 machine to test this, which was released in February 2020, and that doesn't have the full path either, even inside of the rename box.

I've submitted the feature request to the team and I'll let you know what they have to say during the next features meeting, which should be a week from today.

Update - I spoke with the team about this change and this isn't something they want to adjust at this time.

I understand. An unfortunate and rather fundamental deficiency for a file manager to be unable to report a file path.
