High CPU Usage on Small Puzzle Website
I run a small puzzle solution website and recently I’ve noticed cPanel showing high resource usage. It’s just a simple site where I share answers and tips for solving the Letter Boxed puzzle from the New York Times. Most of the content is just text, a few images, and some lightweight JavaScript — nothing heavy or fancy.
Lately, I noticed that the resource usage in cPanel (under CPU and memory usage) seems pretty high. I don’t get a ton of visitors, just a few clicks a day. so I’m confused why the CPU usage would be so high for such a basic site.
Could it be that bots are visiting and causing this spike? Or maybe I’ve set something up wrong without realizing it?
I’m not very technical, so I’d really appreciate it if anyone could explain what I should look for, or what I can do to lower the usage. Any suggestions would be great.

Hey there! Do you have root access to the machine or just access to your single cPanel account?

Hey, thanks for getting back to me!
I actually just have access to my single cPanel account, no root access.
Since it took a while for the post to get approved, I ended up going with a paid service to look into the issue quickly. They helped me figure out what was going on, so it's mostly sorted now.
Appreciate the follow-up though!

I'm glad to hear you were able to find the issue - is it something you could share that may help others?

I hadn’t set up caching, so the pages were being generated dynamically. As a result, each visit required full server processing, which was causing a spike in resource usage.

Makes sense - thanks for sharing!
