Backing Up External Databases Without Linked cPanel Accounts

Hey there!  With my current understanding, no - on the local cPanel server in a typical configuration, each database is linked to a cPanel user, and that user is what processes the backup.  Since these databases aren't connected to a cPanel user neither cPanel nor JetBackup would be able to include these through any normal backup routines.

You would be best backing these up separately on the node with a separate backup tool or even "mysqldump" to ensure you have copies of that data.

    Alright!

Since cPanel natively only allows backups for existing accounts, I’ll need to discard that option in this case.

I have JetBackup installed on this node that hosts the databases. With it, would it be possible to configure a directory backup or something similar?

Could you provide more details on how I can back up these databases even if they’re not associated with a cPanel account?

I already do something similar on my email node, where I back up specific directories. Would this approach also work for databases?

Is there any official cPanel guide or documentation that explains how to handle this kind of setup?

    Thank you in advance!

    I'm in the same situation.

JetBackup would still want to associate these with a cPanel account.

I'm wondering...do the cPanel backups work on that system but it only ignores the databases since they are not related to a cPanel account?  If so, could you not use the "Entire Data Directory" option in WHM >> Backup Configuration to achieve this?

Since it's the only option you have that would be automatic, I'd try it.  It wouldn't hurt any of the active data, but you'd want to verify the backup data after it completes to see if it works well in your situation.

    Sure!

I'll run this test and validate how it will behave.

After success or failure, I'll come back here to report.

    Thank you.
