PHP Version Not Updating to 8.3 in EasyApache 4 on cPanel 122.0.10
Hey cPanel folks,
I’m struggling to update PHP from 8.1 to 8.3 using EasyApache 4 on my cPanel server. The update seems to complete, but sites still run on 8.1. Any ideas?
Details:
-
cPanel Version: 122.0.10 (checked via WHM > Server Information).
-
OS: AlmaLinux 8.10, 64-bit (confirmed via cPanel > General Information).
-
Server: VPS, root access, no reseller account.
-
PHP Setup: MultiPHP Manager, default PHP 8.1, using EasyApache 4.
-
Environment: No custom modules (e.g., LiteSpeed, NGINX), standard Apache setup.
Steps Taken:
-
Logged into WHM as root, went to EasyApache 4.
-
Selected current profile, added PHP 8.3 (ea-php83), removed PHP 8.0.
-
Provisioned profile—completed with no errors.
-
In MultiPHP Manager, set default to PHP 8.3 and applied to domains.
-
Restarted Apache via WHM > Restart Services.
-
Checked phpinfo() on a test site—still shows PHP 8.1.
-
Ran /scripts/checkphpversion—reports 8.1 for domains.
What I Tried:
-
Cleared browser cache, rebooted server.
-
Verified no .htaccess overrides for PHP version.
-
Checked EasyApache logs (/usr/local/cpanel/logs/easy/apache/build.*)—no errors.
-
Searched forums for EasyApache issues; found a 2024 thread on PHP 8.2 but no fix for 8.3.
-
Ran yum update to ensure system packages are current.
Expected: Sites should run PHP 8.3 after EasyApache provisioning and MultiPHP settings.
Actual: Sites remain on PHP 8.1, despite 8.3 being installed.
-
Hey there! In WHM >> MultiPHP Manager, what do you see under the "User Domain Settings" tab? If domains there are manually set to a specific version of PHP they wouldn't use the server default. If you want all the sites to follow the server's default you should choose the "Inherit" option on that page.

Thanks for the tip! The issue is resolved—setting domains to “Inherit” in WHM > MultiPHP Manager fixed it, and sites now run PHP 8.3. Really appreciate your help in spotting the manual version override!
Best,
