Apache Status with High number of requests

Please advise if it is normal or abnormal to have a few hundred requests being processed. I believe this is the caused of high server load. 

We are using MPM Event and MaxRequestWorkers as 1000.

  Hi,

   

  Sometimes an unusually high amount of traffic can be a sign of a DDoS attack. However, in other cases it can just mean your websites are receiving a large spike of legitimate traffic.
