Backing up log files and how to download a WHM backup

Hi i have two quesitons: 

1. I unchecked the box to backup log files during a system daily backup - do i need log files in a backup, why?

2. I looked around the backup directory, the backup directory dated yesterday does not have a download option in configserver explorer.  I guess i am correct in thinking to save a backup locally, what i want to download is the whole directory dated yesterday. So how do i get that directory to my PC. I was thinking maybe i can just copy it to the public_html and then compress it from there, then download it.  Or is there a better way?

  Hey hey!

  1 - It's really up to you and if you wanted to keep them outside of the specific user accounts

  2 - The best option is likely an SFTP connection to the server as the root user so you can navigate all directories of the machine, although moving it to a public_html and accessing it as a user would certainly work.  If you choose that option you would also need to update the ownership of the file/directory to match the cPanel user.
