Recurring Email "Connection timed out" Issues - Emails Stuck in Queue
Hello everyone,
I'm experiencing a persistent and frustrating issue with emails on my cPanel VPS, where outgoing connections frequently time out, leading to a build-up of emails in the queue. This has been happening intermittently for some time, and unfortunately, it reoccurred yesterday, July 21st, causing significant delays in email delivery.
I've checked several potential causes and haven't found any obvious culprits:
-
No blocked ports or firewall issues: I've verified that there are no blocked ports on my VPS and no firewall rules are interfering with outgoing email connections.
-
Standard email configurations: My email configurations are standard and consistently achieve a 10/10 score on email tests.
-
Not blacklisted: My IP address is not listed on any major blacklists.
Despite these checks, the "Connection timed out" errors persist for various domains, as shown in the attached screenshot (examples include armateus.com.br, https://www.google.com/search?q=pphosted.com, mail.icloud.com, https://www.google.com/search?q=ajinomoto-com.mail.protection.outlook.com, and https://www.google.com/search?q=grupomateus-com.mail.protection.outlook.com).
This issue is severely impacting my email service. Can anyone offer guidance on what else I should investigate or potential solutions for these recurring connection timeouts?
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

Just an important addendum to my previous post: I'm also consistently seeing the "retry time not reached for any host" error for these queued emails.
While this often points to Port 25 being blocked, I've confirmed that Port 25 is definitively NOT blocked on my VPS and firewall

Hey there! This sounds like an issue with your local DNS resolvers. Can you run the following command on the server?
telnet gmail-smtp-in.l.google.com 25
Can you share the output of that command here?

Today, emails returned to normal, but out of nowhere, several emails got stuck in the queue with this error.0 -
That does look more normal for sure.
It's always possible that you're just greylisted by Microsoft directly, as most of those addresses in your screenshot are showing the Outlook email server, but you'd have to contact them to find out.
Are there any additional details directly in the Exim log?
