How to Block or Filter Emails Triggering "Read Receipt" to Specific Address (cpanel/Exim)
Hello,
I am experiencing an issue with my cPanel mail server (using Exim) where some of my users are receiving emails from various senders, but all of these messages have something in common: they request a delivery or read receipt to the following address: greesegreese133@gmail.com.
This triggers return receipt requests and causes bounce errors for my users, since they have enabled delivery/read receipts in Outlook.
What I would like to know:
-
Is it possible to create a global filter (via cPanel or Exim) that blocks, redirects, or automatically deletes any incoming message that has this specific email address in the return receipt request (i.e., “greesegreese133@gmail.com” in RCPT TO, header, or body)?
-
Would this affect legitimate traffic or are there best practices to avoid collateral blocking?
-
Is there a recommended method in cPanel for managing this scenario (global email filters, Exim custom rules, etc.)?
Additional details:
-
The server is running standard cPanel with Exim as the mail server.
-
The source email and subject of the messages vary, but the common point is the confirmation request (read receipt goes to greesegreese133@gmail.com).
Any advice or best practices would be greatly appreciated!

Hey there! Does the "Any Header" option in the filter drop down not catch this? Have you tried that?
