Issue with ModSecurity Ruleset Causing Apache Syntax Error
Dear cPanel Support Team,
Good day.
I am reaching out because I am experiencing an issue with ModSecurity ruleset on my cPanel server. When the rules are enabled, Apache (httpd) fails to start and returns a syntax error.
Currently, Imunify360 is requesting that I update the ModSecurity ruleset from version 7.30 to version 7.41, but I am concerned that performing the update or re‑enabling the rules could cause Apache to crash again.
Could you please assist me in determining the root cause of this syntax error and advise on the safest approach to apply the latest ModSecurity ruleset?
Server details:
cPanel version: 130.0.15
OS version: AlmaLinux 8
Apache version: Apache/2.4.65
Thank you in advance for your guidance.
Kind regards,
-
Hey there! I'm not seeing any active issues with ModSecurity on our end. Could you please share the specific syntax error or any other relevant data from the Apache log when the service tries to start? Once I know that I may be able to point you in the right direction.
I also don't see a problem with performing that update - if Apache didn't start you could just disable ModSecurity again quickly.
