Unable to Create Standalone Domain Inside Existing Account After Migration
We are experiencing an issue where cPanel will not allow the creation of a standalone domain under an existing account. I closed one account that hosted domain1 and moved its files and data to another account that already runs domain2. When attempting to add domain1 to this account, cPanel automatically converts it into a subdomain of domain2 instead of treating it as a separate domain with its own document root.
Even after cleaning DNS zones and removing userdata references, cPanel re-adds the subdomain entry (domain1.domain2.com) every time. The process fails with the error message: “Sorry, you can not add a DNS record for a subdomain of another user’s domain.” The goal is to have domain1 function as an independent site under the same account, just like it worked before, but the system now enforces subdomain mapping automatically.
It appears that recent cPanel versions changed how addon domains are handled, and this new behavior is preventing a normal setup. I would appreciate any clarification on whether this is a new design requirement or a configuration problem, and how to properly add a standalone domain under an existing account without it being forced into a subdomain structure.
