Your host might not have FTp active.   If they do, it may be using another port.   If you set up the server / are the admin of the server, maybe you have FTP (TCP 21) blocked by a firewall.

You should attempt to telnet from your own machine to port 21 on the server and see if you get an FTP banner.  If you don't, then FTP is either firewalled, disabled, or running on another port.   Your provider would be able to tell you.

I would expect the main cPanel user to work - do you get a specific error message you can share when you try to connect?  If not, you'd need to reach out to your host and have them check the logs to see why that isn't working.

i remember coming here a decade or more ago, ive always had cpanel hosting as i like my own email\website stuff.

    its all i know.

i have another question if you may know

in the email accounts, there is a main \system account, which is not a email, but it has 300mb of space used? there is nothing in it, is there some folders etc that i can clean out safely to gain space back?

Can you try running this command on the server to see if that resolves the issue?

    /scripts/generate_maildirsize --confirm $user

Just enter the username of the account you're working with for the "$user" portion.
