AI fails when trying to report CPanel forum spammer.
Tried to report the spam in forums and the AI agent sent this as a reply:
Hello Tudor,
This is cP Agent, your AI assistant.
Thanks for reaching out to cPanel. If your message isn't related to our products or services, we may not respond. If you do have a question about cPanel, please reply here and let us know — we'll be happy to assist!
If the above solution doesn't work, just let me know and I'll send your request to the cPanel Customer Service Team.
Thanks,
cP Agent
Clearly this isn't a "solution" of any kind. Where's the "report spam" button in forums anyway? I swear I previously experienced the forums being pre-moderated?

I think only legitimate people who have been helpful over the years get moderated... speaking from personal experience.

tudorh - usually I'll see the spam when I do my daily morning checks, but if you'd like to link me a thread or post here, feel free!

There are dozens upon dozens of spam again, from the time you likely "go home" til the time you get to work lol. The spammers have your number. I had to scroll through many pages of spam (in pretty much every forum section). Not sure how you didn't see them yesterday and thus needed somebody to point them out

Interesting - if it's truly marked as "spam" by the Forum it shouldn't be public. If you see this again can you take a screenshot for me?
0 -
Yes I'll do that. I'm not seeing it now. But the last two nights/mornings it certainly has been visible to me.

Thanks so much!

Well that's just silly - it's clearly in the spam queue and not approved, but still showing up publicly.
I'm looking into some.............changes...for the Forums.

LOL Ok.

Hi cPRex
Unfortunately, the forum has been flooded with spam in the last few days, especially the announcements section.
I was forced to deactivate my subscriptions, otherwise I'm constantly receiving dozens of notifications.

Yeah the spammers clearly got a hold, focusing on times when Rex is likely not at work heh.
I know Rex is aware of the spam. But it is being flagged as spam in the forum software and I think the issue is that they can't figure out why the flagged spam is still showing up publicly.

Yeah, it's been super fun. I have no idea why some is getting through when the user is flagged as a spammer. I'm being told they are looking into it, so we'll see if any improvements happen.

Oh the humanity. As soon as cPanel closes (Rex goes home), the spam starts. Already a metric ton of it this evening (Wednesday) and it's only 7:32 PM ET / 6:32 PM Texas.

No response from the support ticket I put in, either. The AI agent is more of a bouncer than a helper. Then, without any response, they sent me the "How did we do?" email. 😂

cPRex help! The forum is totally overrun with spam and absolutely useless to anyone now. Every day you go home from work, the spam starts accumulating. pages and pages. If you can't see it yourself, you should log in as a user with the same privileges as us peons so that you can. It's horrible.

this is ridiculous

Somebody needs to just shut down access to the forums completely til this is under control. I mean it would suck not to have access to the forums during that time, but I would question the usefulness of the forums in this state -- and it makes it look like nobody is manning the helm and that they closed up shop!

Unfortunately I don't have much I can do. It takes about 5 seconds to clean it all up once I see it, but until that happens that's just how it is with the tools this "forum" has available.

Bad choice to abandon Xenforo

I'm not sure the software choice would matter much here - we had our fair share of bot attacks under Xenforo too.
You'd be amazed at how much it *IS* catching from this.

Shouldn't forum accounts be linked to a WebPros account which should be linked to an active CPanel installation? What's the point of letting people create accounts when they aren't using the software?
0 -
tudorh - that's the issue - the spammers are creating valid WebPros accounts first.

CAPTCHA? Manual Approval? Have to be some options at the SSO signup to help prevent that. Granted, manual approvals would be a bummer to many, but anything that stops creating accounts at the top level. One thing for bots to generate XX # of new accounts every day to a forum. It's another for them to do it to the SSO stuff -- where not one non-legitimate user has any business being able to register.

The forum has become unusable.
I had to remove all subscriptions

cPRex Why is a WebPros account allowed to be used without an active installation? I mean, isn't it a requirement to have a static IP for the installation, which would be the best way to curb the possibility of creating fake accounts? No running cPanel instance = no forum access.

I don't believe limiting it to just active licenses would be an option as we don't want things restricted to that degree.
I am working with Zendesk right now to see if there are any additional options to help with the recent spam and I'll be sure to implement them once I know more.

Update - I've worked with Zendesk to tweak some things that should help. Nothing is going to be perfect, but I'm on the right track now.

The forum is full of spam again :(

It's amazing that a forum like this only has one moderator.
