Should DNS work out of the box on trial accounts? ["DCV failed"]
I am evaluating a WHM/cPanel "marketplace template" on DigitalOcean.
The hostname has been successfully updated to my own domain, and a cPanel reseller account created in WHM, which I have logged into via the updated hostname(:2083).
Inside that cPanel, I then try to activate SSL certificate for the main domain (I have not changed any settings; all just out-of-the-box), but receive the following error:
"**Domain Control Validation failed:** The system *queried for a temporary file* at “http://[WHM/cPanelAccount1domain]/.well-known/pki-validation/YNSO4GGWZPY7UTVJTCI5PE88U735UH2RM9RBEWCWALJZDRPHODBPF3OGQABYD7DZNUHFO9L93”, but the web server responded with the following error: **404** *(Not Found)*. A DNS (Domain Name System) or web server misconfiguration may exist. *DNS-based DCV also failed.*"
When creating the cPanel account, I chose to use domain registrar Name Servers (not ns1(/2).cprapid.com), which corretly immediately reflected that the domain in question points to "ns1.digitalocean.com" (plus ns2/3.{same}), when ticking that option. The creation of the account did finish successfully, without any errors.
Is the DNS setup supposed to work out of the box?

Hey there! The best answer to this is "it depends"
If the DNS system knows that the domain is ultimately pointed to the Digital Ocean nameservers, you would need to ensure the proper records are created there or else things won't work.
Ultimately, I find it much easier to create your own nameservers to run on your cPanel machine. While there is a bit more initial setup involved, you only have to do it once and then all future domains and subdomains you create will work automatically.
