Replace Primary Domain
According to this feature https://features.cpanel.net/c/228-replace-primary-domain we are able to take an addon or subdomain and make it the primary domain.
I cannot find any docs for it and according to the roadmap it is released.
How do we do this and where is the feature? Do I need to enable it?

Hey there! You'll find the interface in the typical cPanel >> Domains section here:
https://docs.cpanel.net/cpanel/domains/domains/manage-the-domain/#rename-the-domain

Hi, thanks.
However, the documentation doesn't mention anything about changing the primary domain, and it explicitly states that the rename feature does not work with subdomains.
I had already looked at this interface, but it doesn't appear to provide the functionality described in the feature request.
The feature specifically states that an addon domain or subdomain can be made the primary domain again. Since the feature is marked as released on the roadmap, could you please clarify how this functionality is accessed? Is there a setting or feature flag that needs to be enabled, or is it available through a different interface?

I don't believe there's a specific tool for that exact function that would graphically illustrate the replacement process. It would just be a combination of renaming the domains you want until the "main" domain of the account is the correct domain.

Thanks, but I think we're talking about two different things here.
I'm specifically referring to the feature described in request #228, which is marked as released on the roadmap.
Can you confirm whether this functionality has actually been implemented in cPanel, allowing an existing addon domain or subdomain to be promoted to the account's primary domain, or whether the only supported method is to rename domains manually until the desired domain becomes primary?
If it's the latter, could you explain the exact procedure? I don't want to risk disrupting an existing account by experimenting with domain renaming.

We're talking about the same thing, I just think we have different expectations. It sounds like you're expecting a "promote" button of some sort in the interface, which isn't the case.
Let me reach out to the team and see if I can get more details, but I agree the feature doesn't seem to be fully implemented as described. I know I won't hear back today due to the time zone of this particular team, but I'll get you more details next week!

I've got some more details on this and we now have a plan.
It seems we had some phraseology issues when cases were created around this tool. The original request on the features site uses "replace" but the internal cases were created with "rename" - so while you can rename domains there isn't a way to replace them just yet, even though that was my intention when the feature card was created.
I've created CPANEL-57813 as a follow-up case to this to see if we can get that added. Thanks for bringing this up!
