I figured this out. When I restored the folder, I did so as the root user. FTP using the user account and now the emails are accessible.

did you try restarting exim. also what settings do you have in CPHulk, as regards login attempts.

Did you let the apple mail app try to automatically configure the pop3 and imap settings ? If so, then I'd suggest deleting the accounts and adding them manually. using Cpanel, go to email account...

I would guess that even if the account is suspended you could still get these errors. I quite often see these for accounts that don't even exist. If someone is trying to gain access to av@roo****....
