Thanks, I had a feeling it may be something like that. Only problem is that the file doesn't exist. Only files in etc are cacheid and ftpquota, both empty. Many thanks Adrian

Seems like a good idea but sadly I cannot get in to do anything as all login attempts to my one current user, root are being locked out.
