How do you customize cPanel's Update Preferences from the command line?

Answer

The default update settings for a cPanel installation are usually controlled with the Update Preferences interface in WHM; however, there are situations where a greater level of control might be required. In such cases, editing the /etc/cpupdate.conf file provides the desired level of control.

1. Access the server's command line as the root user via SSH or Terminal in WHM.
2. Open the /etc/cpupdate.conf file in your preferred text editor.

3. Adjust the values as desired.

   Warning: It is strongly recommended to avoid setting the RPMUP and UPDATE options to either never or manual values.

4. Save the changes and exit the text editor.
