How to customize cPanel's Update Preferences from the Command Line

Introduction

The default update settings for a cPanel installation are usually controlled with the "Update Preferences" interface in WHM. However, there are situations where a greater level of control might be required. In such cases, editing the /etc/cpupdate.conf file provides the desired level of control.

Procedure

1. Access the server's command line as the 'root' user via SSH or "Terminal" in WHM.
2. Open the /etc/cpupdate.conf in your preferred text editor.
3. Adjust the values as desired.
   It is strongly recommended to avoid setting the RPMUP and UPDATE options to either never or manual values. 
4. Save the changes and exit the text editor.
