Can't add db user to db due to ER_PASSWORD_NO_MATCH error

Symptoms

Adding a database user to a database results in the following error, or similar:

CONFIG_TEXT: The system received an error from the “MySQL” database “mysql”: ER_PASSWORD_NO_MATCH (Can't find any matching row in the user table)

Cause

The MySQL option "skip-name-resolve" is enabled.

Resolution

Remove the "skip-name-resolve" option from the configuration file:

1. Connect to your server through SSH as the "root" user

2. Create a backup of your MySQL configuration before making changes:

   # cp -v /etc/my.cnf{,.$( date +%Y%m%d )} -v

3. Using your preferred text editor, open the MySQL configuration file at /etc/my.cnf.

4. Locate the following entry in the file and either remove it or comment it out:

   CONFIG_TEXT: skip-name-resolve

5. Save the file and restart the MySQL service:

   # /scripts/restartsrv_mysql
