What cPanel update tier should I choose? – cPanel

Question

What is the difference between the LTS, STABLE, RELEASE, CURRENT, and EDGE tiers? Which is the best for me to use on my server?

Answer

The differences between the Tier's reflect what each tier represents a In the Production release cycle.

We use the following process to develop and manage production releases:

We complete development and testing of the production release.
We publish the release to the development and EDGE tiers.
We publish the release to the CURRENT tier. At this point, we stop developing or publishing non-critical changes to those releases.
After the release enters the RELEASE tier, we assess any immediate maintenance needs.
After we resolve those maintenance needs, we publish to the STABLE and, annually, LTS tiers.

Release

Out of all of the Update Tiers, the "release" Tier is normally the best Update Tier for the average user. This Tier is feature-complete and is tested thoroughly. It contains all intended features and functionality, this Tier is also the default Tier that is enabled when cPanel is Installed.

Stable

The Stable Tier is similiar to the Release Tier, the main difference is that this Tier is published to less often then the Release Tier.

Once a Release version is reviewed and all Maintenance needs are addressed, it is published to the Stable branch.

LTS

The LTS Tier is normally a single cPanel & WHM version for the year during which WebPros International, LLC supports it. We only ship one LTS version per year.

Over the lifespan of an LTS release, we will provide security and other critical updates to this version. We won't add new features to LTS releases unless it's critical. We also provide updates for compatibility with later versions.
Only one release each year qualifies for LTS. Other versions will only receive updates in the STABLE, RELEASE, CURRENT, or EDGE tiers.

Current

The current update tier has received verification and testing. We publish this tier more often than RELEASE.

Some of this version's features may still be in development.
This tier represents the “Release Candidate” tier that other publication schedules use. Eventually versions promoted to this Tier make their way to the Release Tier.

Edge

The Edge tier receives only rudimentary testing. We publish this tier most often and as such is not recommended for Production environments. This version contains features that we plan to change further.
