Any plans to deprecate FTP in favour of SFTP?

Does CPanel have any plans to discontinue FTP? If so, when? 5y, 10y? I'm looking into purchasing a new webcam, the last one lasted 15y. Some support SFTP, some only do FTP. Our old one was FTP only but otherwise great, and its new equivalent from the same company is also FTP-only but perfect in every other way. I don't want to buy a FTP-only model if CPanel will be deprecating FTP 5y from now. Anyone heard anything? Is this so ridiculous that I needn't worry about it?

  Hey there! No, that's what we do - we worry about the weird stuff. At least you're thinking ahead! Things are definitely headed in the direction of removing FTP as much as possible. We disabled the FTP service by default on new installs starting in version 86 - it's still there, but has to be activated in WHM. We don't have any type of official timeline for when an actual removal would happen just yet, though.

  I'm not involved in CPanel development, just a pleb user, however, if I were buying a new device, I think I'd be inclined to future proof it if I could.
