cPanel Themes, Icons, and you!
Hello everyone! There has been a lot of good feedback about newer styles (Glass) and themes (Jupiter) lacking icons. While there are certainly advantages to both types of interfaces, a large amount of the feedback we received was how much you missed the icons.
We've created case PH-16337 internally to work on adding icons to the Jupiter theme. I don't have a mockup I can share at this time, but the current plan is to have icons next to each text field as in the Paper Lantern theme.
I'll be sure to update this thread as I get more information.

Suddenly clients are saying where is the dark-mode?
This is something we're working towards, although I don't have a definitive version of when that will be released.0 -
My Server host has been begging us to move to InterWorx Unlimited Control Panel, I have been fighting it, but I may have a look now. This is so sad...... 0 -
Where was the consultation and testing? For such a dramatic interface change there should have been a preview phase and an option to switch back. This new UI is terrible, really, really terrible in comparison to what it replaced. All bland, plain, the same, and nothing differentiated from anything else. Please be brave and bring back the old UI - then test the new UI and work through the feedback before forcing it on everyone. 0 -
@cPRex Can we get some dialogue going with devs on this? I can definitely see what others are saying about non-distinctiveness visually. The cPanel interface is "ok," though it could be better/more appealing, but the WHM interface is not ok! WHM colors (really, just shades of black) are hard to navigate on the left side-bar and the lack of indentation causes mis-click way too often. The right pane is mostly unchanged (good) but a few places lead out with a huge image that you have to scroll down past to see *any* of the content. Why? But THE biggest issue is... The search box makes me literally angry! The old one was right up top, easy to navigate into and out of, and gave decent results. Very helpful in finding some obscure setting, and fast for finding anything because of how it (on the fly) limited the menu to results only. But the new one is waaaaaaaay over to the right side - does anyone use a large high res monitor on the dev team? So I mouse over, type, click, and... UGH! Not what I wanted, because the search results are absolutely ridiculous! And then, unlike the old search, the rest of the results are gone. So now we can start over... 1- Fix the search results to be relevant, not some random-looking result. (Have you tried it?!) 2- Move it back to the left, and make the results stick around (the way it was worked fine). 3- Fix the left pane so it is distinct. The clues about current location, sibling items, and parent items are really inadequate. And change the "shades of black" to something that works. I've love a beta program. 0 -

Me and the developers have been actively taking in and fixing customer requests for Jupiter in this thread: @cPanelAdamF posted as recently as yesterday afternoon.0 -

I had an urgent issue with an account yesterday it took FOREVER to find what I needed in this stupid new left side NAVbar. Why couldn't you have at least alphabetized it?????? Also, did the cPanel developers write the software for this forum? How is it possible that you cannot cancel a reply? You have to refresh the page..... So Sad.0 -
The order of items in the left sidebar is the same as it always has been, as far as I can recall. The forums software is created by Xenforo, and not us. 0 -

But they were easier to see and differentiate when they were in the main body (right) area, horizontally aligned, and had icons.0 -
Hello, cPRex, My Web host uses-- cPanel Version: 106.0.4 Theme: Jupiter I'm writing because of a design that continues to cause me frustration since it appeared on my Webhost on May 25, 2022-- Please remove the current cPanel "Main Menu" (the fixed, black column on the left"please see screenshot) and move the three links--cPanel (Home), Tools, WordPress Manager] and place them in the heading to the left of the search field. It would be so nice to have a full-width page for the individual tool pages (like Track Delivery). Thank you for your consideration, McFirm 0 -
@mcfirm - I *think* the long-term plan is to both provide more customization to that menu, and also make it collapsible. 0 -

I understand why it is like this, improving it in this way would be good!0 -
Making the left menu collapsible will be difficult. We're interested in the idea but the challenge is ensuring that all 400+ features AND all third-party plugins all anticipate the presence and absence of that menu on all devices. 0 -
I HAVE NOT READ all the comments: I simply want to give my vote, "I HATE JUPITER" the theme needs color in the icons. 2nd why do you constatnly push for observing how people use thier control panels BUT you removed the template option so you can't see which is prefered! 3rd why is Jupitor the only theme, why have themes at all if there are no choices? I've switched to Jupiter to try and get use to it but it slows me down like learning a new language. Put color in it or put back paper lantern with color not that glass crap. 0 -
Hi, My two cents on the new look: While I like minimalism, in my opinion the new theme is just pushing it too hard. The icons are just blend-y and not as easily distinguishable like on the old beloved dark paper lantern (that you will have to claw from my cold dead hands). And the font should put on some weight, altough you might need to rework the icons as well if that happens (pics related). In all honesty I think you're making a great product, never had big issues in the couple of years I've had it. And while I know I cannot change where the developement is heading, I'll join the gang calling for dark mode. Jupiter is seriously so bright I could replace the lightbulbs in my house with any device able to run a web browser with an instance of whm admin open :-D 0 -
I concur Jupiter is really bad. I know I'm repeating what everyone else is saying but it obviously still needs saying because it isn't changing. * cPanel Jupiter left hand blue menu is horrible * I don't want to Wordpress Toolkit listed in that menu it's not at all helpful for my customers * I now have to horizontal scroll as well as vertical scroll for the same data. This is not good design. * New Search facility completely hopeless. Can no longer find what I want. Customers can no longer find what they want. Hopeless. * Search Box in left hand menu good. Search box on the right hand BAD. * I hate bright screens. Where's my Dark Mode * I liked Paper Lantern Dark Mode * My customers do not find it easy to navigate and do familiar jobs in Jupiter - we get more calls to do things for them because they can no longer do things for themselves. * Old Icon Set might help. To repeat the words of @ferumfist you can remove Paper Lantern from my cold dead hands. Do you think when you completely remove Paper Lantern in cPanel 108 you are going to get lots of happy website users suddenly becoming webhosts or are you going to get more complaints because we can no longer fix the interface problems by changing the defaults from Jupiter to Paper Lantern? You are literally removing our ability to fix the problem!! 0 -
I'm going to get banned from this place... fine! I hate being your test subject. I did not ask for change. I'm effing OLD. I already have hard time seeing WHM, why you make it DIMMER to see? The contract sucks. the scrollbar is lighter... WHY? The main titles are lighter... WHY? I had installed "userContent.css" to avoid the previous BS css you forced on me, now you have somehow managed to override my custom and back to BS css. Who gives a damn about old people managing a web business, right? 0 -
@jaybee1 - we wouldn't ban you for giving feedback, and I'll pass this along to the team. 0 -
So I assume third party custom themes are also not supported at this point? 0 -
Jupiter is not good..., I prefer Paper lantern, productivity.... At this point the Direct Admin is easier to use than Jupiter. Simple and clean (but paper lantern was better than Direct Admin).... 0 -
@Nathan Lyle - third-party products, by their nature, are never directly supported by cPanel. They could work and behave just fine, but that isn't something we would know about on our side. 0 -

Contrary to the change that none of us like, I fine I can work just as fast in Jupiter as Paper Lantern (after getting used to it), BUT... even with the much appreciated fixes and tweaks to Jupiter after it was first rolled out, bugs-and-all, there is one glaring pain that needs to be addressed! The UI look makes it un-intuitive, and hard ti look at (literally, I'm not talking ugly, I'm talking hard to navigate due to the look). SO MANY users have said this already. Those with vision challenges have pointed it out. Isn't accessibility a cPanel thing? it is for we who are web devs. We have talked about mouse and keyboard efficiency, and down right deceptive color choices, like the left panel menu colors and the scrollbar area colors! How about we baby-step this with the option to use a CSS override file?!0 -
Echoing this, and without resorting to any third-party products: What are the current options to customize the cPanel user interface with Jupiter? 0 -
We currently do not intend for any type of theming or customizations of the same level to be applied to WHM. 0 -

And I don't expect a customization interface, but is asking for a CSS override really too much? (It's not even a feature request, and no I didn't/won't open one for it.) But until that, or a major improvemtn to the WHM UI, happens the hatin' will continue...0 -
What specific area(s) would you like the CSS override to handle? 0 -
What specific area(s) would you like the CSS override to handle?
WHM as a whole, and especially the left nav area. The main thing would be colors for fonts, backgrounds, scrollbars/areas, borders. Secondly, font size and style. I'm sure others would have some additional suggestions.0
