Annoying subdomains for addon domains

    Hey there! The subdomains are to allow Apache to serve content from a different document root while still being owned by the main cPanel user. cPanel has been this way since it was created, so I don't believe that is something that is going to change at this point.

    On cPanel an addon domain is just a domain alias parked on top of a subdomain. Create a subdomain - set a DocumentRoot. Park a domain alias on top of that subdomain... addon domain. The subdomain associated with an addon domain - I do agree is a bit of clutter - but it's just the way it's always been done.
