cPanel is preparing to update version 118 on CentOS 7.9
greetings...
cPanel has been showing a warning for quite a while now saying: "cPanel & WHM version 110 will be the last version that supports CentOS 7. Support for version 110 will end June 30, 2024. "
Today cPanel shows an update available. at 118.0.4 ? I definitely do not want server problems if I update. is version 118 compatible with CentOS 7.9 ?
I changed the update file to manual. Do I need to reboot the server for that to take effect?

Especially since V110 said it should go EOL in July 2024: https://docs.cpanel.net/knowledge-base/cpanel-product/product-versions-and-the-release-process/

That's correct - even if you check the box, the update would fail because we don't support it. More details here: https://support.cpanel.net/hc/en-us/articles/19649329138327-When-will-cPanel-stop-supporting-CentOS-7

Not to go off topic, but this is a bit frustrating. Per the doc I liked above says 110 (LTS) Approximate End of Life is July 31 and later under LTS support it says through June 30th. We have a mix of CentOS V7 and AlmaLinux V8 servers. Are we now going to have a mix of V110 (V7 servers) and V118 (V8 servers)?
We were really hoping to keep everything on V110 until we got all the V7 to V8 migrations completed. This is very confusing to customers as well as potentially cause issues with transfers between V110 and V118.
The timing is just really bad based on CentOS V7 EOL.

ffeingol - what issues with transfers are you anticipating?

I'm not anticipating any issues as the transfer system is generally very solid. You do, however, (at least in the past) get a warning about going between different versions.
It's just very confusing right now. Our servers are all set to LTS, but showing that V118 is available. This page: https://www.cpanel.net/releases/ is showing it's only in Release and TBD for stable. We're just trying to understand when V118 will be moving to LTS and how much of a mixed environment we're going to have.

Oh, I see what you're saying - thanks for the clarification. We *just* pushed 118 to Stable and LTS today, so it's there right now. If your server is eligible it will receive that update. More than likely if you are still on version 110, you'll be "stuck" since your system doesn't support 118.

I understand that the CentOS V7 servers won't go past V110, but our AlmaLinux V8 will go to V118. Based off the previous documentation (https://docs.cpanel.net/knowledge-base/cpanel-product/product-versions-and-the-release-process/) we were expecting everything to stick on V110 until CentOS went end of life.
We will now end up with a ton of support tickets from clients that have accounts on V7 servers AND V8 servers asking why cPanel is different. We just could have planned better if we knew that V118 was coming to LTS so soon.

The LTS version always gets switched in March, and isn't related to the LTS version. If you have AlmaLinux 8 machines that you don't want to update you could always stop the update process by setting the "cpanel" value in /etc/cpupdate.conf to manual.

Hi cPRrex,
https://docs.cpanel.net/knowledge-base/cpanel-product/product-versions-and-the-release-process/
110 LTS Approximate End of Life Date July 31, 2024
All of us were convinced that the LTS 110 was supported until June 30, 2024 as described in the documentation
LTS support
We follow these guidelines to provide LTS support:
- The lifespan of each release extends through June 30th of the following year.
- WebPros International, LLC may extend a version’s LTS period at our discretion.
- Development releases of cPanel & WHM do not qualify for LTS. We don’t use their publication dates to calculate an LTS version’s lifesp

Version 110 will continue to be supported until July, so additional security fixes and updates for the LTS tier will still be applied.

That's not accurate. Version 110 has been discontinued in CentOS 7 on my machine. There are no options for LTS running v110.
see screenshot0 -
Sure, but you're already running version 110. You just aren't able to update to 118.

my point is that there will be no security fixes etc for v110 on my machine as cpanel thinks LTS on my machine v118.

Hello everybody!
We have same question. If I understand: our CentOS v7.9 on version 110 not been updated to 118 version (even with the alert update), but it still continues operating normally. It's correct?
What happen if I upgrade to latest version manually? Thanks, Marc

Hello!
A few minutes ago our CentOS v7.9 server with whm 110 try to update to 118 version but can not proceed. It returns this error:FATAL Newer releases of cPanel & WHM are not compatible with your operating system. Upgrade your OS, or use the Update Preferences screen to select a Long-Term Support release for use with your OS. cPanel & WHM 11.118.0.4 supports AlmaLinux 8/9, CloudLinux® 8/9, Rocky Linux™ 8/9, Ubuntu 20/22 only. Please see our OS End of Life policy for more information.
Despite this, all server processes works perfectly. (As we want ) In a few days we update to AlmaLinux.
Thanks

DiBello Design - it won't do that - the update will see that you are on 110.
Just to clarify, this is how the LTS process has always worked:
-the new version goes to LTS in March. This year, that is 118
-the old LTS version is still supported until July of the same year. Right now that is 110.0 -
i just noticed today the same on my CentOS 7.9 server. I am running v110.0.17 and it says v118 is available even on LTS :
My questions are :
- Will 110 continue to receive updates until July 2024?
- Now that i can't select v110 at the update preferences, how will i be able to update to v110.0.24 for example?
Thanks

1 - Yes
2 - It will happen automatically0 -
what do you mean automatically?
Shall i start the upgrade process and when it reaches the latest v110 version it will stop (or fail)?
Is that safe?0 -
That's correct - the upgrade will stay on version 110 since you are using CentOS 7. It doesn't matter if you try that manually or let is happen as part of the automatic update overnight.
