I want to delete all files from monthly backup
Hi, I have daily, weekly and monthly backups. Since I have a large server and the backup type is incremental, my S3 bills are rising. Therefore, I would like to delete monthly backups since they are never used.
I am comfortable using SSH and I see the backup folder on the S3 server but I have read that JetBackup doesn't recommend deleting files via SSH and instead recommends using backup filters and retention to handle the deletion.
I can't set the retention to 0. The minimum is 1. So, how can I set the filter to stop backing up from the web server and start deleting from the S3 server?

Hey there! Are you using JetBackup on the server? If so, adjusting the retention to be 1 would clear out all but the most recent backup.
If you're using cPanel backups configured through WHM >> Backup Configuration, feel free to delete them manually through SSH.

I am using JetBackup 5 to do the backup at WHM » Plugins » JetBackup 5. I have initiated the deletion process via SSH.

It sounds like that may not have been the ideal solution if they advised not to do that.

Well in that case, how can I delete it?

You should do what JetBackup said and just let them cycle out as part of the retention settings.

But setting backup retention to 1 will not delete the backup in my case because I no longer want the monthly backup at all. Not even 1 backup. My 1 backup would be about 1.5 TB.

Let's see what antonJetApps or JetAppsAdam can confirm if you can just remove those directly from SSH if you no longer want the monthly backup?

Hello,
Just to clarify, we do not recommend manually removing/relocating the files/folders on the backup destination as this may cause unintended issues with JetBackup's indexing.
If you no longer need monthly backups, you can simply remove the schedule and the snapshots associated with that schedule will be deleted during the next run of the backup job.
Hope this helps!

No problem!

kevinJetApps So, I need to keep the backup job enabled but remove the schedule from the backup job?

Yes, that sounds like the right plan!

Yep, that is correct Optimizr.

Deleting the schedule of the backup job turns it into a manual backup job and it didn't run automatically. So, I ran it manually and it started a backup instead of deleting the backup. This wasted my time and made me wait unnecessarily until now, since the start of this thread.
I doubted this would work from the start but I thought you guys might know better.
I am going with manual deletion via SSH. Then I'll reindex the destination.

Hello Optimizr,
Sorry about the inconvenience. It seems that I misunderstood your concern. The snaps are removed from the list of available backups for the accounts, but the files on the destination remain after removing the schedule.
Our developers are currently working on extending the deleteAccountSnapshots API to work with additional options that can filter the snapshots to be deleted by destination and backup job.
Once again, I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused.
