Clarification on restoring account as different user on SAME server

I need to make a copy of an account to use as a dev account on the SAME server.  I read through this:

But it refers to restoring it on a different server.  If I have xyz.com in account xyz can I use this method to make it create a new account on the same server with domain dev.xyz.com and account name xyzdev?

My main questions here are 

1)  if this is possible is there any chance that doing so will screw up the original xyz.com account?

2) How would this work with the restore of the databases?  I'm assuming that cpanel would automatically change xyz_db1 to xyzdev_db1 when it is imported?

  Hey there!  Usually people use the following steps to make this happen on the same server:

  -backup the account as it currently is on the machine
  -rename the existing account *and* change the username of the active account.  This changes the cPanel username, DNS records, and the databases.
  -restore the backup, which recreates the old account
