Yes, you cannot actually use a custom kernel on OpenVZ unlike KVM, etc so it will be ingored

You can still use yum update to install this - nothing needs to be done manually. It just installs the kernel whish isn't used on OpenVZ. You can always remove it afterwards if you wish

This is a Redhat 'bug' - the updated util-linux-ng package has a kernel dependency, however this obviously isn't needed on an OpenVZ VPS Bug 1401203 " util-linux-ng depends on kernel
