Seems like your Kernel is not actually the one that should be on boot. (except the last results from the latest server you mention.)

I believe you need to enable it globally on the server and then disable for all other accounts than the one you need to have it on.

That can be achieved from your clients cPanel account, doesn't have to be from WHM or even root. Change MX records using cPanel MX functions

Yes the backup should be portable and i never had issues with a .tar file on a local windows pc using winrar, maybe your file is actual not good.

Seems like it's time to move on and come back once cPanel adds all necessary features and removes all bugs...that will justify the price tag.

The answer is ...make sure you change the MySQL root password before the upgrade.
