WP Toolkit Smart Update failure with redirection plugin enabled

Symptoms

Smart updates fail with the following error.

Unable to perform Smart Update on this website because the
site clone is different from the original.

Description

A smart update performs a clone of the site and then checks that the URLs operate the same. A sitemap is used to collect URLs on a website. The redirection plugin can redirect to URLs outside of the sitemap or even cause a sitemap URL to not return a 200 response. This inconsistent behavior will cause a smart update to fail. The error returned in the failure also doesn't provide an error message to help identify why the issue occurred.

The WP Toolkit development team opened a case to investigate this further. For reference, the case number is EXTWPTOOLK-13317. Follow this article to receive an email notification when a solution is published in the product. 

Workaround

Temporarily disable the redirection plugin or disable the redirection for pages being redirected by the redirection plugin to perform smart updates.
