Question
How do I restore an account from a backup file stored on the server?
Answer
The Transfer or Restore a cPanel Account screen in WHM / Transfers allows you to restore from a file that exists on the server.
Before Starting
In order to use a file on the server, it must conform to one of these file name formats:
cpmove-{USER}cpmove-{USER}.tarcpmove-{USER}.tar.gz{USER}.tar{USER}.tar.gzbackup-{MM.DD.YYYY}{HH-MM-SS}{USER}.tarbackup-{MM.DD.YYYY}{HH-MM-SS}{USER}.tar.gzbackup-{MM.DD.YYYY}_{HH-MM-SS}_{USER}.tarbackup-{MM.DD.YYYY}_{HH-MM-SS}_{USER}.tar.gz
Additionally, the file must exist in one of the following locations on disk:
/home/home2/home3/root/usr/usr/home/web
Procedure
- Access your server using WHM as the root user.
- Navigate to WHM / Transfers / Transfer or Restore a cPanel Account.
- Select Restore from a local cpmove file option to restore an account with an existing
cpmovefile on the server. - Choose Select a File, then select the cpmove file on the server to use for the restoration, or manually enter the path to the file.
- Select the option to Replace All Matching A Records or cPanel-provided A Records.
- Click Restore. The Account Restore interface will appear as the system begins the account restoration process. You can use this interface to monitor the restoration progress.
Note: The server should have free space equal to double the uncompressed size of the account plus 1 GB.
