Each username’s first 8 characters must be unique.

Symptoms

When attempting to create, transfer, or restore an account on the server, you receive an error:

[ERROR] Failed making API Call to cPanel/WHM (uapi). Error: The name of another account on this server has the same initial 8 characters as the given username (edentours). Each username’s first 8 characters must be unique.

Description

cPanel / WHM requires each username to be unique to create and or restore an account on the server. 

Workaround

Each username’s first eight characters must be unique; failing this requirement will cause the creation and restoration of accounts to fail. An existing account with a conflicting name can have its username changed to make room for an incoming account:
